“Drumline: A New Beat,” filmed in Atlanta, trashed on Twitter

MV5BMjQwMjAwNTk0M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMTA1NzM5MjE@._V1_SY317_CR0,0,214,317_AL_-1The VH1 movie “Drumline: A New Beat,” was filmed in Atlanta but isn’t getting much love here (or anywhere).

The sequel to “Drumline” is now trending on Twitter and appears to be reaching love-to-hate “Sharknado” status.

The movie stars Danielle Bolton as “an upper class Brooklyn girl, (who) defies her parents in order to attend a college in Louisiana so she can join – and revitalize – their once-prominent drumline,” per imdb. (Tragically, I missed the movie).

Nick Cannon returned as Devon Miles.

Here’s the trailer:

The reviews are rolling in and are certainly entertaining if a bit harsh!

The movie not only was filmed here but has been promoted locally. Cast members LeToya Luckett, Leonard Roberts, Alexandra Shipp and Jasmine Burke were touted as special guests at an Oct. 3 reception held at the College Football Hall of Fame as part of the festivities surrounding the annual Atlanta Football Classic. Hosted by The 100 Black Men of Atlanta, PNC Bank and VH1, the private reception honored Braves hero Hank Aaron and featured a perfromance by DRUMLine Live.

The Twittersphere is staying busy rendering harsh verdicts today, but could turn the movie into a cult favorite like the aforementioned “Sharknado,” which parlayed its ironic embrace into an even-worse but much buzzed-about sequel.

Did you see the movie? If you missed it are you going to try to catch it when it airs again?
