Reaction to Bruce Jenner’s revelation on ABC’s 20/20 that he identifies as female has largely been supportive, but Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband Kris Humphries is taking heat for his comment.
“Man, I’m glad I got out when I did,” said Humphries, who was married to Kim for 72 days, said via Twitter.
Humphries’ comment was retweeted and favorited nearly 5,000 times but responses scolding him poured in swiftly.
During the two-hour interview Jenner told Diane Sawyer that he began wearing women’s clothes as a child.
“My brain is much more female than it is male,” Jenner said. “It’s hard for people to understand that, but that’s what my soul is.”
During the interview the Olympic gold medalist used male pronouns and referred to himself as “Bruce,” but said he intends to transition and displayed some dresses he plans to wear when his new identity is complete.
“If I die, which, I could be diagnosed next week with cancer — and boom you’re gone,” Jenner said. “I would be so mad at myself that I didn’t explore that side of me. You know? And I don’t want that to happen.”
A father of six who has been married three times, Jenner said he still wants his kids to call him “Dad” and said he has chosen a female name to assume at some point. He is taking hormones and has grown his hair out, but isn’t sure about surgery.
“Those things are all things that are out in the future for me to explore,” he said. He understands the transition will take time for some to embrace.
“I just like blending in,” Jenner said. “That’s all I want to do is just blend in.”
