Prior to the pageant Steve Harvey said he had one goal

Harvey incorrectly named her the winner and she reigned for just a few moments.

The two embraced warmly when she stepped onto his set and Harvey fell on his sword again and again, apologizing not only to the pageant contestant but also to her country.

Here’s a clip:

She mostly listened during the appearance but addressed the matter ahead of time.

“To see my crown taken away from me, it was really embarrassing,” she said during an interview prior to her appearance. She also was asked if she was nervous about appearing on Harvey’s show. Answer: “I think he’s more nervous.”

Indeed, Harvey seemed anguished.

“It caused a lot of sleepless nights in my house,” he said. “This finally gives me a chance to have a moment of closure. I would never do that as a publicity stunt. I would never do that to hurt a woman. I’m just not that way. I cannot even begin to imagine what it was like for you.”

“I appreciate it,” Gutierrez said. “Thank you so much.”

The correct winner, Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, also appeared on Harvey’s show this week. She was upbeat and happy.

“I’m excited!” she said as she approached the stage. “Let’s go!”
