Kenny Leon and his friend Samuel L. Jackson are teeing up once again this Saturday for the annual golf tournament and gala benefiting True Colors Theatre Company programming, particularly the National August Wilson Monologue Competition for high school students. The tourney’s sold out – but a few party tickets are available.
The star-studded guest list includes Ahmad Rashad, Julius “Dr J” Erving, Roland Martin, Glynn Turman, Flex Alexander, Shanice Williams, Phaedra Parks, John Beasley, Malik Beasley, Dale Ellis, Jasmine Guy, Crystal Fox, Leon Robinson, Tory Kittles, Rick Mahorn, Charlie Criss, Jonathan Babineaux, Victor Green, Mel Pender, Rod Coleman, Van Jakes, TC Carson, Earl Billings, Eugene Lee and Elijah Kelly.
The party, held Saturday evening at the Millennium Gate Museum at Atlantic Station, features a dinner buffet, cocktails, and rhythm & blues entertainment along with the chance to make some fancy new friends! And, most importantly, help talented young people cultivate their artistic talents.
The August Wilson Monologue Competition offers students of all races the the opportunity to study theatre, explore African American culture and history, and hone their public speaking and reading comprehension skills. The program is active in communities in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Greensboro, New York City, Pittsburgh, Portland, Seattle and Los Angeles.
