Kent Bazemore took out a full-page ad in a recent edition of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution to thank fans after he chose to remain “home” and re-sign with the Atlanta Hawks as a free agent.

http://digital.olivesoftware.com/Olive/ODE/AtlantaJournalConstit“I knew in my heart that Atlanta is where I wanted to stay. This city has become my home,” wrote Bazemore, who turned down higher offers from three different teams to remain here. “My Atlanta Hawks teammates and the Atlanta community have supported me immeasurably and I am excited to see what we will accomplish together in the future.”

He also noted that his foundation, which supports sports programs and training camps for children and teens, is based here, and is planning a weekend full of events.

Invited celebrity guests include Grant Hill, Paul Millsap, Dennis Schroder, Al Horford, Tyrone Hill, Charles Oakley and Brian Jordan.

Here’s a look at what’s on the schedule.

From 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Jimmy Choo boutique at The Shops Buckhead Atlanta, 3065 Peachtree Rd., a portion of proceeds from purchases will benefit the foundation.

At noon Aug. 6, the foundation hosts a celebrity bowling tournament at The Painted Pin, 737 Miami Circle.

At 7 p.m. Sunday, the foundation hosts an UNO Tournament held at Fernbank Museum of Natural History, 767 Clifton Road. At 10 a.m. Aug. 8, the foundation hosts its Celebrity Golf Classic at Druid Hills Golf Club.

Bazemore looks forward to meeting fans during the events, and continuing to help young people through his foundation.

“I’ve learned a lot about life through athletics and I want to provide that same opportunity to other student athletes,” he said in a statement. “Now is the time for me to leverage my platform to make a difference. Having been raised in a small town, I understand the kind of impact a single individual can make in the lives of those in a community.”
