Mourners pouring in to New Birth Missionary Church on their way to Bishop Eddie Long’s homegoing service are posting words of sorrow via social media before entering the building. The church has requesting no one use cell phones inside. Keep up with the AJC’s live updates from the service here.
“This is harder than I thought it would be,” was the simple lamentation posted by Tanya Mitchell Graham.
Long died at 63 on Jan. 15 after battling cancer.
Some other reflections:
This morning we gather to honor a man larger than life. He was the only man I called daddy. He set an example for me that forever changed me in Christ. His legacy will remain; he taught me to think generationally, bigger than me. He showed me how to run with the vision and to be relentless in my faith. I'll always love you Bishop Daddy. Well done good and faithful servant. @bishopeddielong #wearenewbirth #faithful #servantleader #bishopdaddy #love #missyou #inmemoriam #pray
Losing those who have raised you, whether biologically or spiritually is never easy but we have a hope and a peace that goes beyond our understanding that one day we'll see our loved ones again. Pray for NewBirth today as we celebrate our spiritual father, our Apostle, @bishopeddielong. ❤️ #celebratingBELL #ripbishopeddielong #eddielong #atl #newbirth #celebrationoflife #ilovemychurch
