“First Man,” starring Ryan Gosling as astronaut Neil Armstrong, will film at the Emory Briarcliff property later this month. The estate built from 1920-22 for Coca-Cola heir Asa Griggs “Buddie” Candler Jr. once housed a private zoo, its inhabitants later relocating to Zoo Atlanta and features include a 1,700-square-foot music room.
Not surprisingly, it’s a favorite among filmmakers. A report on Emory’s web site includes lots of interesting tidbits about the unique location. The movie is based on the book “First Man: A Life Of Neil A. Armstrong” by James Hansen. Oscar winner Damien Chazelle directs.

Filming takes place there Nov. 21 and possibly Nov. 22. Casting folks need men and women 18 and over, of all ethnicities. No visible tattoos, piercings, highlights or fake nails. Men must be clean shaven and women must have natural colored hair. They’re particularly interested in women with bob haircuts, and they’ll pay you an extra $10 in addition to the $64 rate for eight hours if you’re willing to have it cut.
