President Donald Trump, who plans to attend Monday’s national championship game, hasn’t picked sides, but he’s enjoyed a longtime friendship with UGA titan Herschel Walker.
A retired NFL running back who played in Trump’s short-lived United States Football League and appeared on “Celebrity Apprentice,” Walker threw his support behind Trump at the outset of his presidential campaign.

“I’ve been a fan of Trump. I’ve known the Clintons for a long time. I’ve known both of them, but I’ve known Donald a lot longer,” Walker told AJC political reporter Greg Bluestein in 2016. “That’s what makes it tough, I’ve just known Donald. I know the type of man he is. I know a lot of things they’ve said, it’s kind of sad. Because that’s not the way he is, and I know that’s not the way Donald is.”
Walker stood by his man even though it cost him – he told TMZ he had a number of engagements canceled because organizers were afraid he would attract anti-Trump protesters.
Walker was at the Rose Bowl. Will he join Trump, who’s attending with Agriculture Secretary and former Gov. Sonny Perdue, find him a seat in the presidential suite? Stay tuned.
