Former Gov. Roy Barnes and his wife, Marie, attended Cobb Community Foundation’s Partners in Philanthropy Luncheon, held Monday in Marietta.

Mondays are busy for Barnes, who now runs a law firm right off the Marietta Square, but Marie was insistent that he attend. A wise man, he listens to his wife.

I’ll be honest: Marietta loves blowing stuff up.

At Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park, historic interpreters reenact the Civil War from time to time with period dress, campfires and of course, cannons.

We celebrate the Fourth of July from about mid-June through .. I dunno, until it starts snowing. But someone took things a little too far this morning, setting off fireworks at 4 a.m. FOUR. AY. EMM.

Marietta Rotarians celebrate student success

For nearly a decade, the Rotary Club of Marietta has supported the Marietta Performance Learning Center, a program that works to help students complete high school while developing business skills in preparation for entering the job market. To encourage students to stay on task, Rotary members participate in social outings, donate business attire, and send items such as gift cards to recognize achievement.

Marietta’s had a death in the family: remembering Rev. Sam Storey

Before there was social media, there was Rev. Sam Storey. The longtime senior associate minister of Marietta’s First United Methodist Church had a pre-Facebook knack for keeping up with his flock’s milestones and occasional missteps.

“You better hope Big Sam doesn’t find out,” my husband warned when I was once pondering a Sunday activity that would divert us from church. I scrapped those other plans.

Marietta’s Strand Theatre will air the Super Bowl on Sunday

If you can’t be in Houston, maybe you can make it to Marietta for Sunday’s game.

The historic Earl Smith Strand Theatre plans to air the game on multiple screens. The event is free to attend and concessions will be available for purchase.

The pregame festivities start at 2 p.m.
