A group of officers went to dinner Friday night and their sergeant planned to pick up the tab. When he went to pay, though, a server let them know someone else already had. The officers posed for a photo with their benefactors but didn’t think to get their names.

Evander Holyfield brings holiday cheer to an Atlanta family in need

Boxing champ Evander Holyfield celebrated Christmas early this year, surprising a local woman and her two daughters with a bounty of toys. Single mom Staci and her girls Makayla, 8, and Jaiden, 4, were nominated as part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 12 Days of Giving effort and got to meet Holyfield Sunday afternoon at the Salvation Army Fuqua Boys & Girls Club in downtown Atlanta.

A member of president-elect Donald Trump’s transition team says Elton John will play at the inauguration.

The opening of the first “Saturday Night Live” since last week’s election felt like more of a requiem than a comic bit. Hillary Clinton, played by Kate McKinnon, sang “Hallelujah” by the late Leonard Cohen.

The Donald Trump character, played in recent weeks by Alec Baldwin, didn’t appear.

“I’m not giving up, and neither should you,” McKinnon said after her performance.

Cobb County dog abandoned for being fat has a new home

A 12-year-old dog named Leila, who someone left at the Cobb County animal shelter after her weight made her “inconvenient,” has found a new home.

At 61 pounds, it’s been hard for Leila to get up and down steps, so her past owners gave her up.  Cobb County animal shelter volunteers posted a message about Leila’s heartbreaking plight the other day.
